Mad Gef discovered a fascinating new series (aired 9 January 2011). It is a US version of a very much loved British series. I know it sounds cheesy and I also know that Americans tend to `steal` aka remake great, wonderful things that other people have going on (thus our European castles), BUT do not give up hope on Shameless yet.
John Wells (best known for the birth of ER) has given Shameless an American face. The show wants you to know how people in a rather difficult financial situations get by. Some may say it presents the down side of alcoholism from a funny perspective. Shameless follows different personality types and how they deal with what they have. The characters are just the right amount of mean and tender, cute-yet-cunning.
Frank the Plank – town drunk, full of humor, sometimes you love him, sometimes you would stick a pen in his eye
Lip – Mad Gef`s favorite, intelligent, kind of gook looking
Fiona – sexy, sometimes annoying.
We will leave you to discover who you love and who you hate!
There are critics who talk about the cultural distance that makes the remake pale in comparison to the original UK series: `Here’s the thing – you can put all the smoking, swearing and drinking to excess in a U.S. version of Shameless, but you can’t make it ring true. Because Americans aren’t Brits. `
Season 2 is said to air in 8 January 2012!
